The mega expos underway in Ho Chi Minh City include the 18th Vietnam International Textile & Garment Industry Exhibition (VTG 2018), the Vietnam International Textile and Apparel Accessories Exhibition (VitaTex), the Vietnam International Footwear Machinery and Material Exhibition (VFM), as well as the 8th Asia International Dye Industry, Pigments and Textile Chemicals Exhibition (InterDye Asia 2018).

VTG 2018 will attract more than 500 companies with over 750 pavilions from 13 countries and territories like Bangladesh, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey, and Vietnam.

Some brands like Bao Lun, Hefeng, Richpeace, Sanxin, Tajima, and ZSK will showcase their cutting-edge embroidery machines. Meanwile, Bihong, Grafica, Han-Bond, Heinz Walz, Sansin, and Sulfet will display their latest printing machines and technology. Sewing machines brands from China and Hong Kong, such as Adler, Leman, and Siruba, will also be on display at the expo.

Vietnam has become the world's third largest exporter of footwear and bags and the world's fifth largest exporter of textile. However, Vietnamese firms are mainly small and medium-sized with limited capability to join the global supply chain. The locally sourced materials only meet 30-40 per cent of the firms’ demand.

Therefore, international expos offer Vietnamese firms an opportunity to gain access to the latest technology, equipment, products, and services in the global market. In addition, local firms can seek better material resources to form a competitive supply chain and enjoy tariff reductions in anticipation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The expos are ideal for Vietnamese firms to connect with foreign suppliers as well as gain insight into the global trends in the field. A series of seminars will be held on the sidelines on different topics like the US-China trade war, a study of effective competitive strategy for garment companies in Vietnam, solutions to save energy in the textile industry, automation, digitalisation, and challenges facing the Vietnamese textile and garment industry.
